Travel Update: Travelling to Larnaca/Paphos Airport and crossing to North Cyprus

With the last travel update from 4th of June, double-vaccinated travellers would enter to North Cyprus quarantine free given that they had a negative PCR results obtained within 72 hours and that they travelled to Ercan International Airport, Nicosia.

With the latest update released on 3rd of August, passenger that fit the criteria can also travel to Larnaca or Paphos Airports and cross to North Cyprus at designated check points in addition to the Ercan Airport without the need to quarantine.

You can find below the official statement from the US Embassy. Please note that the travel restrictions are categorised according to the number of cases in the country of departure. These categories are identified with color-coding and color codes are updated weekly. Please double check the color code of your country of departure prior to boarding the plane.

REPUBLIC OF CYPRUS: 

·         Are U.S. citizens permitted to enter? YES 

·         Complete information and requirements to travel to the Republic of Cyprus can be found here.  NOTE: In order to board a flight, all incoming travelers must provide information to the Republic of Cyprus and obtain a “Flight Pass” at: https://www.cyprusflightpass.gov.cy.  Request for humanitarian or emergency exemptions can be made via the website or via the call center for Flight Pass inquiries: +357-22-285-757. 

·         Based on epidemiological data, the Republic of Cyprus has categorized the United States as an “Orange” country.  This means tourists may travel from the United States to the Republic of Cyprus without mandatory self-isolation provided they have an approved Cyprus Flight Pass, including proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of boarding a flight to Cyprus.Children under the age of 12 do not require testing.  Information on country categories can be found at: https://cyprusflightpass.gov.cy/en/country-categories  

·         Passengers who have been vaccinated and hold a valid vaccination certificate from certain countries (including the United States), regardless of their nationality, will be able to travel to the Republic of Cyprus, from any country without having to meet the prerequisites of the “country category” they are traveling from.  U.S. citizen travelers from the United States can upload proof of vaccinations to Cyprus Flight Pass. Details on vaccination requirements are found here.  Note: Vaccinated travelers can still be selected for random COVID-19 testing on arrival to the Republic of Cyprus.

·         U.S. Citizens who are Legal Residents of the Republic of Cyprus or who also hold a EU passport may enter the ROC even when traveling from “Grey” category countries provided they show proof of their status, approved Cyprus Flight Pass, and follow the applicable testing or vaccination requirements.   

·         As of July 19, unvaccinated travelers entering the Republic of Cyprus via the UN Buffer Zone must show a negative rapid or PCR test in the previous 72 hours. The test result must be on paper (not SMS) and in English. Fully vaccinated persons (14 days after their final dose) may cross with a negative rapid or PCR test in the previous seven days.  

  • Green:
    • if the 14-day notification rate is less than 50 and the test positivity rate is less than 4%; or
    • if the 14-day notification rate is less than 75 and the test positivity rate less than 1%
  • Orange:
    • if the 14-day notification rate is less than 50 and the test positivity rate is 4% or more; or
    • the 14-day notification rate is 50 or more and less than 75 and the test positivity rate is 1% or more; or
    • the 14-day notification rate is between 75 and 200 and the test positivity rate is less than 4%
  • Red:
    • if the 14-day cumulative COVID-19 case notification rate ranges from 75 to 200 and the test positivity rate of tests for COVID-19 infection is 4% or more, or
    • if the 14-day cumulative COVID-19 case notification rate is more than 200 but less than 500
  • Dark red:
    • if the 14-day cumulative COVID-19 case notification rate is 500 or more
  • Grey:
    • if there is insufficient information or if the testing rate is lower than 300 cases per 100 000.

·         As of July 27, unvaccinated travelers entering the “TRNC” via the UN Buffer Zone must show a negative rapid or PCR test in the previous 72 hours.  The test result must be on paper (not SMS) and in English. Fully vaccinated persons (14 days after their final dose) may cross with a negative rapid or PCR test in the previous seven days.
